Warp

Verified

Terminal, multi-model agents, and early-access factory workflows.

Warp began as a Rust terminal and now sells an agentic development platform: the Warp app, a standalone Agent CLI, cloud agents, and Warp Factories in early access. The client is open source. Cloud orchestration, AI services, and billing remain proprietary. The interesting factory claim is config-as-code fleets that can run any model or harness, including someone else's CLI agent.

Assessment

Warp combines an AGPL-3.0 client with proprietary cloud orchestration and AI services. Multi-model access, BYOK, and support for third-party harnesses remain available as product features. Factories were early access in August 2026, while self-hosted workers and BYOLLM were documented as Enterprise features. The client license excludes the cloud control plane. Enterprise self-hosted workers and BYOLLM were not independently tested.

Strengths

  • Client source is public at github.com/warpdotdev/Warp. Warp's own docs state the client is AGPL v3.
  • Multi-model by design, with BYOK on published plans and BYOLLM plus self-hosted cloud agents on Enterprise.
  • Factories (early access) treat GitHub, Slack, webhooks, and schedules as triggers, with factory config as code.
  • Can host third-party harnesses (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) alongside the Warp Agent.

Limitations

  • Open source stops at the client. Oz/cloud orchestration, Warp Drive, and account services are proprietary; a self-built client still talks to Warp's backend for AI features.
  • Warp Factories were in Early Access on 19 August 2026; general availability was not documented.
  • Self-hosted workers and BYOLLM are Enterprise features on the public pricing page, not self-serve.
  • Credit pricing moves. Monthly Build was listed at $20 (annual $18) on 19 August 2026; treat third-party $18/$180 tables as stale unless they match warp.dev/pricing.

Production evidence

Warp's homepage states 718K active developers, 51% of the Fortune 500, and 179K agents running daily. These are vendor-reported figures; no primary source was available here to verify the counts.
