Editorial take
Replit is a factory for greenfield apps on Replit’s computer, not for your monorepo behind a VPN. The sandbox is real because the whole product is a sandbox. Do not buy it as an execution layer for an existing GitHub Enterprise estate unless you are willing to live on Replit.
Strengths
- Agent, runtime, and deploy are one environment.
- Genuine isolation from the user’s laptop.
- Fast path from prompt to a running URL.
Limitations
- Cloud-only, proprietary, Replit-shaped repos and billing.
- Weak fit for existing private monorepos with internal dependencies.
- Model routing is Replit’s, even when multiple models appear in a picker.
