OpenRouter
Verified
Multi-provider inference router used by many coding agents.
OpenRouter is an API gateway that exposes many models through one OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Coding agents (Cline, Kilo, Aider, others) use it as a router. It is infrastructure for model independence, not a harness.

Editorial take
OpenRouter is how a lot of “multi-model” checkboxes come true. You are trusting a third-party proxy with prompts and sometimes code. That is a security choice. It is not a coding agent. Pair it with Aider or Cline; do not confuse the router with the harness.
Strengths
- One API to a large model catalog.
- De facto router for open coding agents.
- Usage billing instead of a new seat.
Limitations
- Cloud proxy. Prompts leave your network.
- Not a sandbox or reviewer.
- Model quality and routing changes under you.
