Assessment
Junie provides an execution surface for teams already using IntelliJ-based IDEs. Other products handle headless worker and sandbox functions. JetBrains inspections help verification but do not replace a merge gate.
Strengths
- Uses the JetBrains project model instead of a lowest-common-denominator LSP.
- Agent (Junie) is named separately from tab completion.
- Natural path for JVM/Kotlin/Java shops.
Limitations
- IDE-bound and proprietary.
- Unattended CI execution is not the product.
- Model and quota terms sit on JetBrains AI subscriptions; they move.
